I am one of the few speech and language therapists in the UK who specialise in working with people who have visual impairment. Through Judy Bell Associates I have links with other practitioners working with children and young people who have visual impairment and complex needs. For more information about me, please see my CV. (All links on this page open in a new tab.)
About this site
I set up this website to share my experience. I provide a variety of material, all of which can be accessed free of charge. It is available on 3 pages, as follows.
1. Communication in visually impaired children
On this page I provide a range of articles for those who are interested in the communication skills of children who have visual impairment. The material is also likely to be of interest to those concerned with adults who have visual impairment and additional disabilities.
2. Profiling the communication skills of visually impaired children
Here I provide an approach to compiling a profile of a child’s communication skills. It is designed particularly for use with children who have visual impairment and additional disabilities, but is also applicable to adults. The menu is supported by a variety of other documents which describe my approach and provide guidelines for use.
3. Children with visual impairment and autism
This page carries material for those who are interested in children who have both
visual impairment and an autism spectrum condition. An important feature is the
link to freely available guidance for practitioners. The material is also likely to be of interest to those concerned with adults who have visual impairment and autism.
I also provide the following:
